Background

The Israeli canine business has witnessed a surge over the past two decades. Many are drawn to the fascinating world of working with dogs. The Bakeman Uri Company, headed by Mr. Uri Bakeman, foresaw the need to train the next generation of dog professionals. The Univrsity Center of Ariel in its’ Tel Aviv branch selected Mr. Bakeman to head their canine courses.

Dog trainers’ course for populations with special needs – Stage A

This basic course is intended for dog trainers in all areas. Graduates can specialize in all fields of canine related work. The course emphasizes comprehension of dogs and the ability to cause it to achieve any objective we desire.

Curriculum –   Basic introduction to the world of dogs

Introduction to dog psychology and behavior

Introduction to canine physiology

Ways of training dogs for various tasks

 

Trainers’ course for assistance and welfare dogs – Stage B

Intended for graduates of the basic course interested in extending their knowledge and ability to work with dogs and owners. The course emphasizes various human handicaps and practical dog training for specific handicaps.

Curriculum –   Introduction to anatomy and physiology

Introduction to neurology and rehabilitation

Psychology

Patho-psychology

Treatment workshops

Content –        231 frontal hours and 150 hours individual work with a dog

 

Ongoing instruction for dog owners and trainers in Israel and abroad

 

Mr. Uri Bakeman, an experienced dog trainer with a local and international reputation, takes part in canine forums and provides ongoing replies to trainers’ questions. Course graduates, some 160 of them (September 2005) use the ongoing instruction services. Mr. Bakeman is versed on trends and innovations in the canine world and has developed methods to assist dog owners and trainers in their work.

 

Dog training articles – in addition to the instruction book (syllabus) written in the framework of the instruction for the dog trainers’ course, Mr. Bakeman writes many articles, in particular relating to assistance dogs for the handicapped. Some articles have been written in cooperation with doctors and scientists as operative summaries of joint studies.

 

Instruction for security institutions and companies – in support of the Bakeman Uri security dog division, dog trainers responsible for security dogs at security institutions and companies, including the IDF, receive instruction services. This includes instructions on maintaining personal security dogs’ fitness, securing installations and anti-terrorist warfare dog handlers and drug sniffing, explosives and minefield dog handlers.

 

Instruction services for petting zoo managers, social workers, psychologists, youth instructors, pet assisted therapists etc.

In our modern world, petting zoos are almost the sole providers of immediate experience with animals, mainly to the urban population. Almost all zoos have a petting corner. Petting and physical contact with animals have been scientifically proven to calm tensions and behavioral disorders in children and adults. Bakeman Uri Co. provides a national service through its agents to instruct petting zoo managers, social workers, psychologists, youth instructors, pet assisted therapists etc. on diverse subjects. The dog’s ability to listen, especially without criticism, is a first-rate therapeutic tool. Through correct professional instruction, the team headed by Mr. Bakeman attains excellent achievements to the benefit of both professionals and clients.
